Ownership: Syndicates/Partnership at Foulrice Farm
The Basics of Syndication
There are various forms of syndication and partnership, in which the expense
of maintaining a racehorse in training are spread among a group of people
according to a percentage 'share' in the horse. Any prize money the horse wins
is likely to be distributed according to the percentage share, after deduction
of expenses.
Partnership is a possible route into ownership for those who:
provides an opportunity for those with limited resources to take part in
ownership.
enables a newcomer to ownership to find out exactly what is involved
before committing to the responsibilities of individual ownership.
makes it possible for family/friendship/business groupings to become
more involved in racing.
Partnership with Peter Beaumont through 'The Fellowship of the Rose'
Peter Beaumont encourages prospective owners by running his own syndicate
called 'The Fellowship of the Rose'. This works as follows:
In the yard we have a horse called I'm Gunner Be Fine which is owned by Peter
Beaumont.
The horse is leased to a syndicate called The Fellowship of the Rose
Partnership and 5% shares are on offer to prospective owners.
Any shares not taken up are held by Peter Beaumont. As at March 2008, 35% of the horse is leased to various people and Peter Beaumont
still owns 65%. If you wanted to have a 5% share you could join
the syndicate and Peter's share would become 60%.
Peter Beaumont is a fully committed member of the syndicate.
Added safeguard: In the event of serious injury to the horse curtailing
its racing career, Peter Beaumont would try to find a replacement horse for
the syndicate based on the same percentage shares - and in fact has recently
done so!. (THIS MIGHT NOT BE THE
CASE IN SYNDICATES ELSEWHERE).
